A number of agreements have been reached with the Dene, Metis and Inuvialuit since negotiations began in 1975 to settle outstanding lands and resources agreements & fulfill outstanding obligations under Treaties 8 and 11. Since the federal Inherent Right of Self-Government Policy was adopted in 1995, negotiations for self-government agreements in Canada and NWT began.
