Emergency phones installed on the Deh Cho Bridge

YELLOWKNIFE (January 29, 2016) – To ensure the safety of all travelers crossing the Deh Cho Bridge, the Department of Transportation (DOT), in partnership with Northwestel, has installed two emergency telephones on the bridge, in clearly marked emergency call points.  The call points are now fully functional and will remain open for public use for at least 20 years.

At the press of a button, travelers will be put in contact with the local RCMP detachment in Fort Providence.  These call points will be instrumental in decreasing police response times to the Deh Cho Bridge, and ensuring that every traveler has proper access if assistance is required.

The emergency phones will contribute to the GNWT’s commitment to maintain the highest standards of safety, by embracing innovation and exploring the use of new technology on the roadways.

Connecting the North is of utmost importance to both the Department of Transportation and Northwestel.
