Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals Presented to Behchoko residents

YELLOWKNIFE (February 13, 2013) –Honourable Jackson Lafferty, MLA for Monfwi, Grand Chief Edward Erasmus and Chief Clifford Daniels, presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medals to four Behchoko residents on Thursday, February 7 in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly. Also in attendance were Commissioner of the Northwest Territories George Tuccaro, Chief Alfonz Nitsiza, Chief Charlie Football and Chief Edward Chocolate.

Recipients of the medal were:


  • Mary Koyina-Richardson

  • Tammy Steinwand-Deschambeault

  • James Wah-Shee

  • Michael Botermans


Germain Eyakfwo of Gameti, Madelaine Judas of Wekweeti and Alex Nitsiza of Whati will be presented with the Diamond Jubilee Medal next week at a Tlicho Special Assembly in Whati.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created by the Government of Canada to recognize the outstanding contributions of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life. This medal program is one of the elements of the year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Further medal presentation ceremonies will be organized to recognize other NWT recipients before the Diamond Jubilee celebrations end in February 2013.
