VANCOUVER (May 5, 2016) – Deputy Premier Robert C. McLeod announced today that the Government of the Northwest Territories will donate $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal. The donation, made on behalf of the people of the Northwest Territories will assist victims of the wildfire in the Fort McMurray area.

The donation is in addition to offers to assist in forest fire operations and emergency response made by Government of the Northwest Territories officials yesterday.



YELLOWKNIFE (May 4, 2016) – NWT Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on the fires in Fort McMurray, Alberta today:

“On behalf of the Government and people of the Northwest Territories, I would like to offer my sympathies to residents of Fort McMurray and assure them that our government stands ready to offer whatever assistance it can as they deal with the effects of the wildfire currently burning in their community.


YELLOWKNIFE (April 29, 2016) Premier Bob McLeod has named Ms. Kate Hearn as acting Deputy Minister of the Department of Lands.

Ms. Hearn replaces Mr. Mark Warren on May 8, who is retiring from the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Yellowknife (April 15, 2016) – Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on the Supreme Court of Canada’s ruling extending rights to Métis and non-status Indians:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision is an important one, and will have implications for Métis and non-status Indians throughout Canada. The Government of the Northwest Territories, like all jurisdictions, will need time to review this decision more closely to gain a better understanding of the potential implications for the Northwest Territories.


YELLOWKNIFE (April 6, 2016) – Terms of reference for eight Committees-of-Cabinet (COCs) have been approved by the Executive Council.

Each COC is mandated to provide an interdepartmental focus to identify issues, track efforts, coordinate policy and offer recommendations to the Executive Council or Financial Management Board in its defined areas of responsibility.

YELLOWKNIFE (March 2, 2016) – Premier Bob McLeod has issued mandate letters to Cabinet Ministers. Tabled in the Legislative Assembly yesterday, the mandate letters represent the culmination of work undertaken by Members of the 18th Legislative Assembly to establish priorities and a mandate for the Government of the Northwest Territories for the next four years.
