CEO Appointed for Territorial Health and Social Services Authority

News Releases

YELLOWKNIFE (February 9, 2016) – Health and Social Services minister Glen Abernethy would like to announce that Sue Cullen will accept the appointment of Chief Executive Officer for the new Territorial Health and Social Services Authority (THSSA).

“Our new health and social services authority will help us improve care across our Territory,” said Abernethy. “I am happy to welcome Sue Cullen, who brings a wealth of Northern and healthcare experience and will be a strong leader through the changes required to implement the new Authority.”

Cullen served as CEO of the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority for three years and was Assistant Deputy Minister of Operations at the Department of Health and Social Services for two years. Most recently Cullen has been acting CEO of the Stanton Territorial Hospital. A nurse by trade, Cullen brings extensive experience from across Canada, the North, the United States and the United Kingdom to her new role.

Work to implement the new territorial authority is ongoing and there are still a number of challenges that need to be addressed before the new authority can begin operation. August 1, 2016, is now the new effective date for the Authority to commence operations.

This delay from the original proposed April 1, 2016, implementation date will ensure work to set up the authority is done with the best interests of our residents in mind, and does not sacrifice quality for speed. A continued focus on improving our health and social services system will help us deliver the best healthcare and a better future for NWT residents.
