YELLOWKNIFE (September 2, 2016) - Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy issued the following update regarding an external investigation into a critical incident:
“As committed last week, I am pleased to provide additional details regarding an external investigation. I would like to announce that Dr. Marlyn Cook will be conducting a critical incident investigation. I am confident in Dr. Cook’s abilities to provide a complete and fair investigation.”
Dr. Cook graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba in 1987 and completed her Family Practice Residency Program at the St. Boniface Hospital in 1989. She has practiced in small communities including Cross Lake, Manitoba, Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Weeneebayko General Hospital in Moose Factory and James Bay General Hospital. Dr. Cook is Cree and is a member of the Grand Rapids First Nations.
The external investigation will consider:
The investigation will commence on September 12, 2016 with the expectation that the investigator will provide a report to the Minister of Health and Social Services by November 30th, 2016. Any recommendations that arise as a result of this investigation will be shared publicly.
