YELLOWKNIFE (APRIL 11, 2016) — Filmmakers wishing to work in the Northwest Territories (NWT) may now submit their proposals to receive significant rebates on their projects.
The Film Rebate Program offers guest and local producers alike the opportunity to receive rebates on goods, services, travel, and wages for films made in the NWT.
Proposals are due on May 6 for productions taking place through March 2017.
The program, administered by the NWT Film Commission through the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, was created in response to a recommendation from the Economic Opportunities Strategy that recognized the need for enhanced funding options for the film sector.
These needs were echoed in Take One: Northwest Territories Film Strategy and Action Plan; the Department of ITI’s film strategy.
“The Department of ITI is pleased to continue the film rebate program to support the local film sector, as well as attract more guest productions to the Northwest Territories. These objectives are essential to reaching the targets set in our action plan, which lays the foundation for a strong film sector in the NWT.”
