Government of Canada and the Northwest Territories announce joint-funding for infrastructure projects

YELLOWKNIFE (March 16, 2016) - Michael McLeod, Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories, today announced funding for 13 projects for municipalities in the Northwest Territories under the Government of Canada’s Small Communities Fund. MP McLeod was joined by Robert McLeod, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs for the Northwest Territories.

The Government of Canada remains committed to making historic investments in infrastructure to promote good jobs and clean growth in towns and cities across the country.

The funding announced today by Mr. McLeod, on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Amarjeet Sohi, will support key infrastructure initiatives across the Northwest Territories, including upgrades to drinking water facilities, road improvements and a new multi-use recreational facility.

Through the Small Communities Fund, the governments of Canada and Northwest Territories will continue to work in partnership to fund priority public infrastructure projects that will contribute to stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable communities in the North.

• The Government of Canada will contribute up to $16,002,014 of the total eligible cost of $49,597,019 for the 13 projects. The Community governments of Northwest Territories will also contribute $33,595,000.
• The Small Communities Fund allocation for Northwest Territories is $25,805,442.
