YELLOWKNIFE (September 16, 2013) – Finance Minister J. Michael Miltenberger has begun a public dialogue with NWT residents on a management plan to maximize the benefits of resource revenues for present and future NWT residents.
We need to ensure the benefits from development last longer than the projects,” Minister Miltenberger said. “Resource revenues don’t just belong to us; they need to be managed for the benefit of all generations. We have committed to not use resource revenues to fund current programs and services. Instead, we ensure benefits for future generations by using them for investment in infrastructure, by repaying our debt, and by saving in our NWT Heritage Fund. Now we want to hear from NWT residents about how we can best achieve a balance between investing in infrastructure today, and saving for tomorrow.”
Residents across the NWT are invited to attend public meetings and send letters or emails by November 15, 2013. Public meetings will be held in the evenings, starting at 7:30 pm in the following regional centres:
- Behchoko Thurs, Oct 3 Charlie Charlo Building, Meeting Room
- Fort Simpson Mon, Oct 7 Nahanni Inn, Boardroom
- Hay River Tues, Oct 8 Ptarmigan Inn, Louisa Alexandra Falls Room
- Fort Smith Tues, Oct 15 Pelican Rapids Inn, Blue Room
- Yellowknife Mon, Oct 28 Explorer Hotel, Janvier Room
