Stuart Hodgson memorial

YELLOWKNIFE (February 15, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories will hold a public memorial service to celebrate the life of former Commissioner Stuart Hodgson on February 19 at 3:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife. A reception hosted by Commissioner George Tuccaro will follow.

In 1967, Mr. Hodgson became the first resident Commissioner of the Northwest Territories – a position he would hold for 12 years. During this time, Mr. Hodgson laid the foundation for responsible government in the territory, overseeing the move of the territorial government from Ottawa to the new capital of Yellowknife.

From February 15-19, a book of condolences will be available in the Great Hall for messages to the family. Messages may also be sent by email to executive_protocol@gov.nt.ca.

The flags will be at half-mast across the Northwest Territories on February 19, the day of the memorial.
