Priorities and Mandate

The Priorities of the 18th Legislative Assembly were tabled on December 17, 2015 and amended in June 2017, resulting in an updated Priorities of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

The Mandate of the Government of the Northwest Territories, 2016-2019 was developed and adopted by the Legislative Assembly on February 25, 2016 and revised on October 4, 2017 based on the revised priorities of the 18th Assembly.  The Mandate of the Government of the Northwest Territories, 2016-2019 (Revised) provides an agreed-upon foundation for GNWT decisions about how to prioritize and allocate resources among competing priorities and for directing government business for the remainder of the term of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

The GNWT is committed to being accountable to the people of the NWT by reporting on its progress toward implementation of the Mandate.

The Premier will issue revised mandate letters to all Cabinet Ministers, outlining broad expectations and specific responsibilities for advancing the Revised Priorities and for fulfilling the GNWT’s Mandate commitments over the remainder of the term.
