TORONTO (March 23, 2016) — One of the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) own will be thrust into the limelight this evening.
NWT filmmaker Jen Walden’s short film Painted Girl will be featured in this year’s Women in Film and Television - Toronto Showcase — an event recognizing and celebrating female talent in the film and television industry organized by Women in Film and Television – Toronto (WIFT-T).
Walden wrote, directed, and produced the feature on her own.
The event will take place at the Royal Cinema and will feature seven other films directed by female film producers.
The Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) works to support a developing film sector in the NWT through Take One: Northwest Territories Film Strategy and Action Plan to help increase opportunity for filmmakers like Walden.
“I would like to congratulate Ms. Walden on behalf of the GNWT for the exposure she is bringing to the NWT’s film sector with her hard work and creativity. Bringing recognition to our local film sector is an essential piece of continuing to grow our young industry; an outcome which would not be possible without the hard work of our talented artists. The GNWT is dedicated to pursuing our film strategy to support progress in our local industry.”
