Amazing Family Sundays

Public Service Announcement

November 4, 2010 - Amazing Family Sundays returns to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre this Sunday, November 7, with the opening of the René Fumoleau exhibit, Seasons of Beauty. The exhibit will be on display until May 2011.

The display parallels the launch of Rene’s new photo book: Way Down North: Dene Life - Dene Land, in which he captures the changing seasons and changing times of Denendeh – the land of the people. Way Down North is a celebration of beauty, highlighting a selection of the thousands of photos René took while living and learning among the Dene.

“René Fumoleau took thousands of photographs, documenting Dene life in the Northwest Territories during his 57 years in the north,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty. “We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to catch a glimpse into the beauty of life and the land through René’s lens.”

Seasons of Beauty is a display of 21 photographs showing the beauty of the four seasons of life and land. René generously donated his photographs and records to the NWT Archives, and over 15,000 of René’s images and an on-line version of the exhibit can be found at www.pwnhc.ca.

“There is beauty in the wind, in the sunset, in children, in creation, in the peaceful face of the old, in the hope in children’s eyes,” René Fumoleau says. “We will see it if we are very attentive to the present moment.”

This event, which runs from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m, is the first of the museum’s Amazing Family Sundays fall lineup. Admission is free and visitors of all ages are invited. Other Amazing Sundays programs are scheduled for November 14th, 21st and December 5th.
