Quotes

“Negotiating a new collective agreement can be difficult under ideal conditions. The current fiscal and economic environment provided additional challenges which both parties were able to overcome. The collective agreement between the GNWT and NWTTA could not have been reached if it wasn’t for our shared focus on improving learning conditions and outcomes for NWT students and working conditions for NWT educators.”
-Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Finance

“I am pleased that both parties were able to work collaboratively to reach an agreement that will benefit all NWT students. Teaching in the NWT is challenging and rewarding. I believe that this agreement helps to ensure that all teachers have the support they need to create a positive learning environment for all NWT students.”
-Alfred Moses, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment

“These were difficult negotiations undertaken during difficult economic times. We surveyed our members and their mandate was for improved working conditions for teachers which in turn provides improved learning conditions for our students. I feel this was accomplished in these negotiations and will be confirmed through our discussions with our education partners over the following months.”
-Fraser Oliver, President of the Northwest Territories Teachers Association
