Minister Schumann recognizes small business community

YELLOWKNIFE (October 18, 2017) -- Minister of Industry Tourism and Investment Wally Schumann issued the following statement in celebration of Northwest Territories Small Business Week October 15 to 21, 2017:

“With over 90 percent of NWT businesses defined as small businesses, this important sector of our economy provides employment opportunities for our people, the economic diversity to balance the ups and down of the resource economy and helps make our communities great places to live.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is responsible for developing, promoting and sustaining the environment in which NWT entrepreneurs and small business owners have the confidence to invest, take risks and prosper.

We do so with targeted policies, programs and funding initiatives – and in partnership with organizations such as the Business Development and Investment Corporation and Community Futures Organizations.

Small Business Week activities including, business training seminars, workshops and open houses are being celebrated in various NWT communities. As we mark Small Business Week in the NWT, I would like to recognize the many economic development practitioners, chambers and business advocates that support our territory’s business community and salute the individual entrepreneurs and businesses owners who’s investments and success are contributing to regional economic growth and the sustainability of our Territory’s economy overall.”
