How the Telephone Directory is Created
The web pages
directory is created nightly by a series of automated processes.
The first process extracts the directory from EXCHANGE and uses
this information to create an Internet-format address for each
user. This makes it possible to receive mail, within EXCHANGE,
from outside the GNWT's electronic mail system (i.e. the Internet
).
The second
process extracts the data from the online Telephone Directory
System (TDS) and creates the web pages. During this process, a
comparison is done of the names in the TDS to the names from the
EXCHANGE directory. If a match is found, a mail-to link is generated.
It is the
responsibility of the Departmental Telecommunications Coordinators
to keep the TDS up to date for their department. If information
is not correct on the web pages or if you want to have your name
changed in the TDS so that it matches your EXCHANGE name, contact
your Departmental Telecommunications Coordinator. If you want
your name changed in EXCHANGE, to match your name in the TDS,
contact the Technology Service Centre (TSC) at 1-866-380-6777
or 920-4408.

How To Search the GNWT Telephone Directory
The Search
function included with the GNWT Telephone Directory is a wild
card string search of the complete directory. Text entered in
the search box will be searched for and matched against anything
in the directory. Not only does it match names, but departments,
divisions, sections, job titles, and phone numbers as well.
For example,
if you were looking for John Smith and you typed "Smith"
(or "smith", or "SMITH"), you would get all
the Smiths in the directory, as well as Smithsons, blacksmiths,
and everyone working out of Fort Smith.
To refine your search, key in the full name or something like "n smith",
which would yield first names ending with "n" and last
names starting with "smith".
GNWT Telecommunication Co-ordinators
It
is the responsibility of the Departmental Telecommunications Coordinators
to keep the telephone directory up-to-date for their department.
