About the Job
The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

The Department of Finance is looking for an expert in consolidations with in depth knowledge of public auditing. In this role you will be responsible for working closely with Senior Managers across the Government to analyze, audit and consolidate the statements from all of the boards and agencies into the GNWT consolidated financial statements. The successful candidate will have to combine strong financial expertise with excellent interpersonal skills (negotiation, communication, persuasion and tact) in order to be successful in this role.
Additional responsibilities include providing professional advice, assistance, training and interpretation to Departments and Government entities on issues related to GAAP, territorial financial Acts and other materials as required.
The successful applicant will combine the skills and knowledge gained through the completion of a recognized accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA) along with a minimum of five years of progressive practical accounting experience including two years’ experience in the preparation of complex consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements.
This role is located in Yellowknife, a city situated on the Canadian Shield on the shores of Great Slave Lake, the tenth largest lake in the world. The city has a population of about 20,000 residents who enjoy some of the shortest commutes to work in the country. The salary range for this position is from $53.65 per hour to $64.05 per hour (approximately $104,618 - $124,898) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
