About the Job
Located in Yellowknife and working with staff from the Environmental Affairs Unit, Design and Technical Services Division and other areas of the Department, this position will contribute significantly to the capacity of Environmental Affairs to The Intern – Environmental Analyst will assist and maintain an effective Environmental Management System; to administer and/or implement environmental projects; to review and prepare environmental documents; and to handle land use permit applicants and land reserves.
The incumbent may be periodically required to travel to remote sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities may include:
• Sound knowledge of environmental science, biology and field ecology;
• Ability to organize, write and communicate effectively with a wide variety of clients within and outside government;
• Experience with data entry, data verification, graphical and statistical analysis, presentation and computer applications;
• Familiarity with researching, organizing and assessing environmental issues;
• Familiarity of northern environmental issues; and
• A valid driver's license.
Typically the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Bachelor of Science degree with a Biology, Ecology or Environmental Studies major.
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

A northern graduate is an individual who has graduated with a diploma or degree from a designated post-secondary institution within a 24 month period prior to applying to the Internship Program or will complete all academic requirements for his/her program within 6 months of applying to the Internship Program. The salary for this position starts at $33.44 per hour to $39.93 per hour, (approximately $65,208 to $77,864 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3450.
This job opening is for a possible two year term position.
