About the Job
The Intern - Junior Project Officer assists in the geotechnical and granular material services project planning; site identification; site investigation; granular material evaluation for the construction/reconstruction and maintenance of roads, highways, bridges, airports and other related earthworks projects. The position will also assist in the administration of the Department's program material management.
This position will assist the Design and Technical Services Transportation unit in the identification and development of ongoing geotechnical and granular investigations, operations related to granular investigation, and in administering the contract services related to geotechnical and granular investigation contracts.
In addition, they will assist with ensuring project compliance with governing authorities.
Typically, the above qualification would be attained by:
Bachelor’s degree in geology or civil engineering, or diploma in geotechnical technology, with eligibility for registration with NAPEG and Member in Training.
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

A northern graduate is an individual who has graduated with a diploma or degree from a designated post-secondary institution within a 24 month period prior to applying to the Internship Program or will complete all academic requirements for his/her program within 6 months of applying to the Internship Program. The salary for this position starts at $34.67 per hour to $41.38, (approximately $67,607 to $80,691 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3450.
This job opening is for a possible two year term.
