Intern placements are available to Northern graduates. A northern graduate is an individual who has graduated with a diploma or degree from a designated post-secondary institution within a 24 month period prior to applying to the Internship Program or will complete all academic requirements for his/her program within 6 months of applying to the Internship Program. This position is expected to offer an intern experience in written and spoken communication for the general public, internal staff and Members of the Legislative Assembly. The intern will have the opportunity to see the practical application of his/her work. Planning and time management will be two important skills that will be strengthened in this position.
The Public Affairs and Communication Intern assists the Manager, Public Affairs and Communications with events planning; answering the public's queries about the Northwest Territories; and distribution of public information through the Assembly website, news releases and public service announcements. The intern is responsible for conducting daily tours of the Assembly and for various other tasks such as media monitoring, filing and taking photographs at events. The intern is also responsible for organizing a number of educational outreach programs offered by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Typically the above is attained by:
A Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism and/or English; or related discipline. Bilingual in French an asset.
This job opening is for a up to 2 year term.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary range for this position is from $32.60 per hour to $38.93 per hour (approximately $63,570 - $75,914.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
