The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

Under the supervision and mentoring of the Manager, Policy and Legislation, the Intern Policy Analyst assists in developing and interpreting new and existing health and social services policies and legislation. When developing new or enhancing existing policies or legislation, the Intern Policy Analyst is responsible for providing assistance in completing research and analysis and advising the Manager, Policy and Legislation and Department Senior Management. The Intern Policy Analyst also provides assistance with analysis and research support to and contributes to the work of Senior Policy Officers. The Intern Policy Analyst assists in providing analysis and carrying out research to support the Department in its participation in self-government negotiations and intergovernmental affairs.
Under the direction of the Director of Policy, Legislation and Communications and the Manager, Policy and Legislation, the Intern Policy Analyst supports the Division in its role of preparing for and monitoring sessions of the Legislative Assembly, including reviewing all briefing materials for the Minister of Health and Social Services, providing advice on potential issues that could arise during sessions, tracking Minister commitments, and assisting in developing response and briefing materials for Senior Management and the Minister.
Typically the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences.
This job opening is for a 2 Year Term.
The salary for this position starts at $33.44 per hour (approximately $65,208. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
