The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) works through wide-ranging partnerships and initiatives to deliver quality programs and services that promote and support economic development, diversification and prosperity in the interest of Northwest Territories residents – their businesses and communities.
The Intern position is located in Yellowknife and reports to the Manager, Business Development and Programs.
The mandate of the Minister and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) is to promote economic self-sufficiency through funding, support, and marketing of initiatives designed to foster a positive economic environment in the territory.
The Department is divided into two key program areas; Economic Development and Mines and Petroleum Resources. The Intern position is located within the Economic Development program, under the Business Support and Trade Division.
A major instrument for the department in carrying out its mandate in promoting and supporting economic and business development is the Support for Entrepreneurs and Economic Development (SEED) Policy. The largest contribution program offered by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to support economic and business development and economic diversification, SEED has an annual budget of $3.9 million and is primarily administered by the regional offices in each of the five administrative regions, with some programming and support residing in headquarters.
Under the guidance of the Manager, Business Development and Programs, the Intern position will also work on developing a training database for the department’s regional offices.

The above knowledge, skills and abilities outlined can be attained with either a Bachelor of Commerce degree or a Bachelor of Management Degree. Other relevant degrees may be considered. Post graduate degrees in applicable program areas, will be considered an asset as they will demonstrate the potential incumbents ability to work independently and with ITI staff located across the north.
This job opening is for a 1 Year Term
The salary for this position starts at $34.67per hour (approximately $67,607. per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
