About the Job
The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.
Reporting to the Director, Early Childhood Development and Learning, this position is responsible for providing research services to the Early Childhood Development and Learning division as well as providing support to the regional Early Childhood Consultants through research to inform the development of policies and programming, as well as the implementation of territorial programs such as the Early Childhood Staff Grant and the Early Childhood Scholarships.
The Intern – Early Childhood Coordinator will ensure that professional academia research principles, procedures, practices and methodologies are applied to all research assignments. This research support is required for effective operation of the unit, including developing and conducting research projects, providing research information and other information necessary to support legislation, policies, development and delivery of programming in Early Childhood Education in the Northwest Territories.
Typically, the above qualifications are attained by completion of Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Early Childhood Development or related areas or completion of an Early Childhood Diploma as a developmental position.
Intern placements are available to Northern graduates. A northern graduate is an individual who has graduated with a diploma or degree from a designated post-secondary institution within a 24 month period prior to applying to the Internship Program or will complete all academic requirements for his/her program within 6 months of applying to the Internship Program. The salary for this position starts at $34.65 per hour (approximately $67,607 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.00
