Limited Competition

Intern placements are available to Northern graduates.  A northern graduate is an individual who has graduated with a diploma or degree from a designated post-secondary institution within a 24 month period prior to applying to the Internship Program or will complete all academic requirements for his/her program within 6 months of applying to the Internship Program. Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and aboriginal values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.


Legal Division provides legal advice and representation to all government departments and specified public agencies.  Our lawyers conduct litigation in all areas of the law including, Aboriginal law, Constitutional and human rights, labour and employment, participate in regulatory and administrative law hearings and provide legal opinions and advice.  Legal Division does not provide direct services to the public.
 

Job Information

This position is located in Yellowknife. The position contributes to and impacts the organization by allowing Legal Division and the Legal Aid Commission to recruit and retain lawyers to practice in the Northwest Territories.


Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:


Graduation from an accredited law school and possession of a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree. The incumbent must meet all of the prerequisites as set out by the Law Society of the Northwest Territories and be eligible for membership as an articling student.

This job opening is for a 1 Year Term.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $37.64 per hour (approximately $73,398.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.00.
