Job Information

Located in Fort Smith, the Registered Midwife works as a member of the NTHSSA maternity care team, providing full scope midwifery care to maternity clients in the Fort Smith region. As an autonomous practitioner, the incumbent provides primary care and works collaboratively with other members of the Medical and Professional Staff as well as other healthcare providers. The position provides continuity of care to assigned clients within the context of a small team of midwives and ensures the appropriate coordination of community-based maternity care with territorial perinatal health service.

The Registered Midwife reports to the Regional Manager, Acute Care for regional operational requirements, and collaborates closely with the regional Lead, Registered Midwife. The Registered midwife is a credentialed member of the NTHSSA practitioner staff with privileges granted and maintained in accordance with the NTHSSA Medical and Professional Bylaws. The Registered Midwife reports to the Area Medical Director for clinical management as described in the Bylaws, and is guided and supported in professional practice by the territorial clinical lead for women and children’s health and midwifery.

This level of knowledge, skills and abilities may typically be attained through the completion of a Baccalaureate degree in midwifery (Health Sciences), or assessed through a Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program within a Canadian province, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.  The individual must maintain mandatory certifications as identified in the Continuing Competency Program for Registered Midwives in the NWT, including Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider, Fetal Health Surveillance, and Emergency Obstetrical Skills. Additional requirements include Standard First Aid, CPR (Level C) and a valid class 4 drivers license.

This job opening is for a six month term position: May 15, 2019 - November 28, 2019

Registrations

Eligible for current registration with the Registrar of Professional Licensing, with the Department of Health and Social Services, GNWT is mandatory for this position. 

Eligible for appointment to the Professional Staff including the following mandatory certifications: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider, Fetal Health Surveillance, and Emergency Obstetrical Skills (ESW, ALARM, or MoreOB). Additional requirements include a valid class 4 driver’s license.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $51.29 per hour, approximately $100,015. per annum (Salary is adjusted to years of experience and would reflect a higher wage based on individual experience) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $6,180.
