The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is the single provider of all health and social services in the Northwest Territories (NWT), with the exception of Hay River and Tli?cho regions, covering 1.2 million square kilometers and serving approximately 43,000 people, including First Nations, Inuit, Metis, and non-aboriginals. Health and social services includes the full range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services and social services including family services, protection services, care placements, mental health, addictions, and developmental activities, delivered by more than 1,400 health and social services staff.
While the Tlicho Community Services Agency (TCSA) will operate under a separate board and Hay River Health and Social Services Agency (HRHSSA) will in the interim, the NTHSSA will set clinical standards, procedures, guidelines and monitoring for the entire Northwest Territories. Service Agreements will be established with these boards to identify performance requirements and adherence to clinical standards, procedures, guidelines and policies as established by the NTHSSA.
Under the direction of the Minister of Health and Social Services, the NTHSSA is established to move toward one integrated delivery system as part of the government’s transformation strategy.
Stanton Territorial Hospital is an accredited facility, located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT). Stanton is the referral center for approximately 43,000 NWT residents and 5,900 residents from the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut. Stanton provides health care services to adults and children on an inpatient/outpatient and outreach basis in order to restore health with dignity.
Located at the STH Specialist Clinics, and reporting to the Clinical Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for providing nursing and navigating functions to patients receiving physician specialist care for one or more of the following programs:
Permanent Physician Specialists - General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryngology.
Visiting Physician Specialists - Pediatric Allergist, Gynecological Oncology, Adult Oncology, Neurology, Orthopedic Backs, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Urology and Nephrology.
Other Services - Renal Insufficiency Clinic and Fracture Clinic.
The RN acts as case manager for patients referred to the specialist programs by family practitioners, Nurses in Charge of Health Centres in the NWT and, other provinces and territories. The nurse is accountable for providing nursing and medical administrative functions for one or more specialty programs. As well as providing nursing care at appointments, the nurse acts a patient advocate, facilitating communication and information between the patient, family, physician and other healthcare professionals. This will result in a holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching and relationship development that will best meet the needs of the patient.
The Registered Nurse, Specialist Clinics, (RN) is an experienced professional who will work with one or more of the Specialist Programs within Stanton Territorial Hospital (STH) to coordinate the care of NWT and NU patients. This position will provide case management care in accordance with established standards of nursing practice and the philosophy and objectives of STH to ensure that the patient’s physical, emotional, psychosocial and educational needs are met. Working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team within the NTHSSA and NU and Alberta Health Services (AHS), the clinic nurse provides integrated, comprehensive, individualized care and support to patients and their families. The incumbent facilitates healthcare services by facilitating and navigating patients and their families through the intricacies of the healthcare system.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
The successful completion of a degree in nursing and two years’ recent nursing experience.
Must be eligible for current registration with the Registered Nurse Association of the Northwest Territories/Nunavut, which is mandatory for this position.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary range for this position is from $42.75 per hour to $51.03 per hour (approximately $83,363 - $99,506.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,450.
