Department Information

At the Department of Lands, we strive to be leaders and innovators in northern land and resource management.  We have five regional offices, and are headquartered in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Despite being a small department, with approximately 150 employees, we carry out a diverse set of land management functions within the government. We offer many opportunities to be involved with a variety of different aspects to public land management.

The Department’s key activities include: 
•coordination of government’s role in land use planning and environmental assessment
•public land administration
•compliance and enforcement of activities on public land
•provision of information and technology services to support the natural resources management functions of three GNWT departments

Job Information

The Resource Management Officer II carries out resource management and environmental law enforcement activities mandated by the Department Lands (Department) within the Dehcho Region located in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Located in Fort Simpson, the Resource Management Officer II reports directly to the Manager Resource Management. The position carries out several hundred inspections and investigations. The budget for these inspections will be approximately $250K per year.  The position supports the management and administration of public lands in the Dehcho Region by enforcing acts and regulations, authorizations, policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure regulatory requirements are met related to resource management issues for the Dehcho Region. The position regularly interacts with Lands divisions, other government agencies, resource management boards, industry, Independent Environmental Monitoring Agency, Environmental Monitoring Advisory Board, Aboriginal governments, special interest groups and the public.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:  Typically, the above is obtained through the completion of a 2 year Diploma in a Natural Resources Program as well as 2 years related resource management experience, including experience in safety, firearms and evidence collections and presentation.

Incumbents must possess a valid class 5 Driver’s License, and be able to produce a medical clearance to confirm fitness to perform physical requirements of the position.

A Boating License and Firearms Acquisition Certificate are required within 6 months of hire.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $40.85 per hour to $48.77 per hour (approximately $79,657 - $95,101.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $10,192.
