Water Resource Officer
This position is responsible for the provision of inspection, monitoring , enforcement services at the regional level; providing expert technical advisory services to the Department, other government departments, non-government organization, clients and all other stakeholders residing in the Northwest Territories to ensure the education of and compliance with legislation pertaining to resource management, protection and conservation.
Reporting directly to the Regional Superintendent, this position investigates acts of non-compliance; conducts inspections; review technical environmental plans; reports; represents the Crown as a witness in a court of law; interprets and enforces relevant Acts, Regulations for various environmental Boards; maintains comprehensive databases; provides technical support to departments, industry and public; responds to emergencies and spills; conducts field surveys and is responsible for the protection of samples gathered for inspections and investigations.
Typically the qualifications are attained by graduation from a recognized 2 (two) year College Diploma program (i.e. Renewable Resource Management Technology) or similar advanced vocational program, and 5 years progressively more responsible experience in the renewable resource sector with related management and administration experience. Incumbents are required to have a valid Firearms Acquisition Certificate.
Experience living and working on the land in isolated conditions and travelling in all seasons and conditions is an asset.
