Job Information

There are 2 positions located in Deline and Norman Wells, Northwest Territories and the incumbents reports to the Sahtu Regional Manager, Mental Health and Addictions.  The CYCC provides direct client care including individual and environmental assessment (with an emphasis on strengths and assets rather than pathology), intervention planning, individual, family and group counselling and referrals to other important service providers and agencies within the community.  The CYCC collaborates with other community services including school principals, teachers, regional inclusive schooling coordinators, social workers, nurses, physicians, Community Health Representatives, RCMP, probation, Victim Services, and local Indigenous and Non-Government Organizations to provide a comprehensive, person and family centered approach to care.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Master’s degree in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Clinical Social Work or Education with a focus on therapeutic counselling.   Relevant equivalencies will be considered.  Previous experience working in child and youth mental health and addictions preferable.

The CYCC will work out of the schools during the school year then during summer months they will be located within the community health centers. 

Mackenzie Mountain School (JK-12 – 150 students) - Located in the majestic Mackenzie Valley, situated between the Franklin and Mackenzie mountain ranges, sits the town of Norman Wells. With a population of around 750 residents (about 160 in the JK-12 school) this town is surely to be an amazing home for anyone with loves a dichotomy of outdoor adventure and certain urban amenities. Some of the spectacular groups, events, etc. that the town offers are: sports teams (rec softball, hockey, basketball, volleyball, curling), cross-country ski trails, a gym/fitness center, and many more local activities and groups.

?ehtseo Ayha School (JK-12 – 100 students) - Deline the birthplace of Hockey, home to the biggest lake trout’s in the world, and the only community on the western shore of Great Bear Lake. Alone on a Lake approximately the size of the Netherlands and near the Arctic Circle, Deline is a place where culture and traditions of the Dene First Nation flourish. There are no roads to bring you here most of the year – air access is the only option. Many still supplement their diets by hunting, fishing and trapping at least part of the time.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $46.52 per hour (approximately $90,714.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance


Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered, such as:
Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Clinical Social Work or Education with a focus on therapeutic counselling with two years of directly related experience or two years of Child, Youth Care Work;
Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Clinical Social Work or Education with a focus on therapeutic counselling with four years of directly related experience or four years of experience in Child, Youth Care Work.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain proof of current up-to-date immunization status.
