Seasonal Parks Officer II

The Seasonal Parks Officer II (incumbent) is responsible for the effective and efficient enforcement of, and compliance with, the Territorial Parks Act Regulations within the territorial parks of the North Slave Region. The incumbent oversees parks operations and contracts in accordance with the departmental legislation and regulation to ensure safe, enjoyable campgrounds and facilities and to protect park and campground environments and facilities. This is one of eight positions that will be assigned to a rotating shift schedule evenings and nights to ensure safe supervision of the three Territorial Parks and day-use parks situated in the vicinity of Yellowknife and along the Ingraham Trail. The incumbent also provides a positive image for NWT parks to users and the general public to promote the use of the parks and campgrounds and to encourage tourism in accordance with the mission statement of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment.
This position is located in Yellowknife but spends the majority of the time (weekends) at one of the three parks or eight-day use areas of the North Slave Region. The position reports to the Senior Parks Officer of the North Slave Region and acts in a senior role to the Seasonal Parks Officer I position.
The position has a significant impact on how the Region is perceived as a tourism destination by potential and existing clients (tourist and residents), tourism operators, the general public as well as other agencies and jurisdictions.
Typically, the qualifications for this position would be attained by the completion of Grade 12, enforcement training and five years of experience in enforcement in a park environment. Incumbent must be eligible for statutory appointment as a Peace Officer under the Territorial Parks Acts. Incumbent must have a first aid certificate plus CPR training.

Driver's License Requirement
A mandatory requirement for this position is a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Incumbent requires good physical health to perform enforcement and minor maintenance duties.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
The salary range for this position is from $38.74 per hour to $46.27 per hour (approximately $80,579-$96,242 per annum.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
