Job Information

Located in Fort Smith and reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations, the Manager, Field Support Unit is responsible for providing a range of support services to field staff and other operations personnel.  These services include compliance coordination, and safety and training coordination. This involves working with the senior management committee and the regional operations unit, to ensure that services are provided to managers to support the work in regional offices and consistent with staff development.

Overall coordination is required to ensure that services like occupational health and safety programs are available in communities, compliance and enforcement efforts are consistent from community to community, and different stakeholders feel they are receiving equivalent support to others, proactively preventing political concerns.  For ENR staff, coordination of training ensures that delivery of programs and services are efficient and consistent with ENR's mandate and philosophy.

This position is responsible for the management of the unit, an annual operating budget of over $2,000,000, and is the direct supervisor of the unit staff.

Applicants must have comprehensive knowledge of natural resources as well as excellent working knowledge of standard office computer programs.  The ability to review, analyze and make recommendations on legislation, regulations and policy are required.  Proven problem solving skills as well as proven ability to manage and lead cross-functional and/or cross-regional teams are also required.  Excelllent oral and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

The knowledge, skills and abilities required are normally acquired through completion of a Diploma in Natural Resources, supplemented by seven (7) years of relevant experience.

The incumbent in this position will be required to travel approximately monthly, for up to five (5) days per occurance.  A variety of modes of travel may be used, depending on the destination and season.


Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $55.76 per hour (approximately $108,732.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $6,612.00.
