Community Social Worker, Itinerant
The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) is the single provider of all health and social services in the Northwest Territories (NWT), with the exception of Hay River and Tlicho regions, covering 1.2 million square kilometers and serving approximately 43,000 people, including First Nations, Inuit, Metis, and non-aboriginals. Health and social services includes the full range of primary, secondary and tertiary health services and social services including family services, protection services, care placements, mental health, addictions, and developmental activities, delivered by more than 1,400 health and social services staff.
The Community Social Worker, Itinerant (CSW) is responsible for the provision of Community Based Social Services to identified groups and individuals, and families within applicable legislation, standards and guidelines, and with budgetary awareness, to protect and improve the social wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
Located in Inuvik, and reporting to the Regional Supervisor, Child, Family and Services, the Community Social Worker, Itinerant (CSW) is part of a regional team, comprised of 10+ Community Social Workers. The CSW is responsible to provide coverage in any of the eight Beaufort Delta communities on a consistent basis, ranging from one week to six (weeks) at a time. The CSW is part of the primary community care team and must develop a positive working relationship with the community resources in order to provide optimum support to the children and families with which they work. This position is responsible for providing direct service delivery in several program areas including the Child and Family Services Program (Child Protection, Voluntary Services, Foster Care, Adoptions, Adult Services, Homelessness and Family Violence), and the Aged and Disabled Program.
Typically the above qualifications would be attained by a Diploma in Social Work and at least two (2) years of direct practice in the field of Child and Family Services (CFS); OR
A Bachelor Degree in Social Work and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in CFS - within an Indigenous population preferred; OR
A Master’s Degree in Social Work with six (6) months experience in CFS - within an Indigenous population preferred.

Eligible for current registration with the Northwest Territories Professional Social Worker's Act is mandatory for this position.

The salary for this position starts at $44.43 per hour (approximately $86,639 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,356.
