Job Information

As the Oil Burner Mechanic (OBM)/Operating Engineer you will be responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient operation, repair and maintenance of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and all other mechanical equipment in all Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) occupied and or leased buildings and facilities in the Yellowknife and North Slave Area in accordance with GNWT acts and regulations, National and Municipal Codes, and departmental policies and procedures.

Although this position is located in Yellowknife, you will provide the primary operational, repair and maintenance support on assets located in Yellowknife, Ndilo, Dettah, Behchoko, Whati, Gameti, Wekweeti, and Lutselk'e and will be required to travel 5-7 days per month to perform operational duties. As the OBM/Operating Engineer you will be required to ensure that knowledge is maintained and increased in this position through continual training and exposure to new or specific technology, systems, equipment, standards and processes.

The Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position include:

  • Knowledge of steam and hydronic boiler systems, HVAC controls, Direct Digital Control Systems, Electrical Systems, Energy Management & Control systems, Plumbing, Ventilation systems, Oil Burner Maintenance and Repair, Sprinkler and Alarm Systems;
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, confined spaces, asbestos and mould identification and abatement is required;
  • Knowledge of various codes and acts such as the Boiler and Pressure Vessels Act, National Fire Prevention Act, National fire code, National Building code, Public Health Act and other applicable regulations as they relate to the status of buildings and equipment.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $38.74 per hour to $46.27 per hour (approximately $80,579 - $96,241) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
