Job Information

Located in Fort Smith, the Registered Midwife reports to the Regional Manager, Acute Care for regional operational requirements, and collaborates closely with the regional Lead, Registered Midwife. The Registered Midwife is a credentialed member of the NTHSSA practitioner staff with privileges granted and maintained in accordance with the NTHSSA Medical and Professional Bylaws. The Registered Midwife reports to the Area Medical Director for clinical management as described in the Bylaws, and is guided and supported in professional practice by the territorial clinical lead(s) for women and children's health and midwifery.

The Registered Midwife practices in compliance with the Midwifery Profession Act, the Regulations, the Midwifery Practice Framework, and the Standards of Practice for Registered Midwives in the NWT. The position functions in accordance with the philosophy, objectives, and policies and procedures of the NTHSSA and its Midwifery Program.

The Registered Midwife works as a member of the NTHSSA maternity care team, providing services mainly to maternity clients in the Fort Smith region, and occasionally to clients in other regions. As an autonomous practitioner, the incumbent provides primary care and works collaboratively with other members of the Medical and Professional Staff as well as other healthcare providers. The position provides continuity of care to assigned clients within the context of a small team of midwives and ensures the appropriate coordination of community-based maternity care with territorial perinatal health services.

Typically the above qualifications would be attained by:

This level of knowledge, skills, and abilities may typically be attained through the completion of a Baccalaureate degree in  Midwifery (Health Sciences), or assessed through a Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program within a Canadian province, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.

Salary Information

The salary for this position starts at $53.31 per hour, plus Northern Allowance of $3.39 per hour.
