Assistant Director, South Slave/Dehcho
The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Reporting to the Executive Director this position is accountable to clients pursuant to the established service partnership agreements. The incumbent provides strategic and opeorational advice to the Executive Director on shared service operations, techncial accounting issues, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement activities, communication, employee engagement, performance and employee development.
The position is the senior designated Accounting Officer for all departments and the NWT Housing Corporation in the regions pursuant to the Financial Administration Act and ensures accurate processing of payroll informatiion and various components of benefits administration for Government of the Northwest Territories employees in various employment groups. In addition, this position oversees three (3) Managers' of Operations, which are responsible for supervising Regional Financial & Employee Shared Services staff.
The incumbent of this positon should have experience working in an automated financial environment, negotiation skills to support making and managing agreements and relationships wtih client departments, knowledge and experience leading, supervising, managing and motiviating staff. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities and deadlines.
Typically this knowledge, skills and abilities would be attained through the successful completion of a relevant degree or a professional accounting designation and at least five (5) years of directly related experience including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.

The salary for this position starts at $61.04 per hour (approximately $119,028.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $6,612.00.
