Job Information

Residents within the Long Term Care Facility are usually long-term convalescent, geriatric or respite patients. These residents live within the home and are experiencing a chronic illness or disability that has resulted in physical frailty and/or cognitive impairment and require 24-hour care. The residents' medical outcomes are somewhat predictable. Residents within the facility are visited a minimum of once every three months or more frequently as required by their Physician or Nurse Practitioner. The LPN and Clinical Care Coordinator independently make day-to-day decisions regarding individual nursing care plans based on delegated medical orders.

The Relief RCA is a member of the nursing care team who provides direct personalized care to residents who have common well-defined nursing diagnoses.The Relief RCA acts as a resident's advocate and facilitate communication between the patient, family, the LPN, the clinical care coordinator, and other health care professionals. This holistic approach to planning, organizing, teaching, and relationship building is designed to meet the needs of the residents.

Establishing relationships with and providing care to aged residents or clients who may be ill, disabled, palliative or cognitively impaired can be stressful. The RCA will experience residents or clients who may present as confused, intoxicated, physically or verbally aggressive or may have language barriers, as well as family members who may lack understanding of the limits to care in a facility. The incumbent must be able to maintain a positive attitude when responding to all of these situations, and must have the ability to deal effectively with challenging and frustrated people. Patience, tact, and sound judgment are required as well as the ability to use non-violent crisis intervention techniques, at all times with due regard for TlichQ culture and traditions.

The Relief RCA ensures the safety and comfort of residents, assists with hygiene, facilitates physical activity and promotes independence and mental well-being in a respectful and compassionate manner. How the elders are cared for is a reflection on the whole organization, especially with the families of the elders who maintain regular contact.

Typically, the above qualifications would he attained by;

The incumbent will be a Certified Personal Support Worker, or Long Term Care Aide achieved by graduating from a Personal Support Worker program from a recognized educational institution or has experience working in a Long Term Care setting;
Having knowledge and skills in personal care, communication, and the effects of the aging process while working as a team member can be gained with two (2) years of experience in a long term care setting.

Relief Worker

This job opening is for a Relief position where there are no established hours of work on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and may be required to report to work on an as and when required basis for facilities where services operate on a daily basis throughout the entire year.

Immunization Status

The successful candidate will be required to obtain proof of current up-to-date immunization status.

Equivalencies

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $33.20 per hour to $39.65 per hour (approximately $64,740 to $71,318.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $5,387.
