Research & Communication Analyst
The Bureau of Statistics has the general responsibility for the territorial government's statistical program. This includes developing and maintaining the statistical information that the government requires to set priorities, to plan and to budget. The Bureau also works to coordinate statistical activities within the government in order to minimize duplication of statistical effort and ensure that the statistics used by the government are current, consistent and accurate. As the central statistics group for the government, the Bureau of Statistics also provides for the continuing and effective representation of territorial interests within the national statistical system.
The Research and Communication Analyst is responsible for disseminating information from a variety of sources to ensure the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has access to timely and accurate data for planning policy and monitoring socio-economic conditions. Reporting to the Territorial Statistician and located in Yellowknife, the Research and Communication Analyst completes statistical requests, gathers data and creates dissemination products for the NWT Bureau of Statistics. Clientele includes all GNWT departments, boards and agencies as well as other Indigenous, federal and provincial/territorial governments. The incumbent of this position is bound by the Statistics Act with respect to the role of the Bureau of Statistics and confidentiality.
This position requires knowledge of the Statistics Act.; basic statistical techniques; and procedures and methods to create tables from data. Working both independently and in a team environment, the incumbent requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; manage concurrent projects and tasks within deadlines; and analyze data and think critically. Excellent computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office products, infographics and web design software are needed to perform this position.
This position is typically attained by:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics or a related discipline and 1 year of experience in a research or statistical environment.

The salary range for this position is from $34.33 per hour to $44.11 per hour (approximately $66,944 - $86,015) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
