Job Information

The Official Languages Coordinator is responsible for providing Official Languages planning, advice, and program implementation support to the Manager of Official Languages to ensure that Official Language services are provided by the Department of Health and Social Services and the regional Health and Social Services (HSS) operations centres. 

This includes providing policy and research support to the work of the Manager of Official Languages. In undertaking Official Languages research and analysis, the incumbent will assist in identifying issues, objectives, and options to advance and support language communications and services across the Health and Social Services system.

The position specifically supports the planning, coordination, monitoring, and implementation of a range of French and other Official languages services and communications by the HSS system in accordance with the 1984 NWT Official Languages Act and Regulations, the GNWT Strategic Plan for French Communications and Services, the Standards and Operating Plans for French Language Communications and Services, as well as the Departmental mission and values.

Reporting to the Manager of Official Languages, the Official Languages Coordinator supports the consistent, timely and effective delivery of Official Language communications and services for a broad range of stakeholders, including but not limited to, the public, HSS managers and employees, and the regional HSS operations centres. The position also supports and contributes to Official Languages work being undertaken by other GNWT Departments as directed by the Manager.

Typically Attained by:

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree
  • 2-4 years' experience in the public sector, preferably in a northern policy unit or northern environment
  • Bilingual (EN-FR) required; achieving a minimum of Basic/Basic/Basic French language proficiency level in the GNWT language proficiency testing process
  • Experience in either health or social services field is an asset

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $44.16 per hour to $52.76 per hour plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
