The Department of Health and Social Services works under the direction of the Minister and Deputy Minister, in partnership with the Health and Social Services Authorities, to support the health and wellbeing of people across the NWT through planning, development, evaluation and reporting on program and service delivery.

The Policy Analyst develops and interprets new and existing health and social service policies and legislation. When developing new or enhancing existing policies or legislation, the Policy Analyst is responsible for completing research, consulting stakeholder groups and advising the Manager, Policy and Legislation and Department Senior Management.
The Policy Analyst also provides analysis and policy research to support the Department in its participation in self-government negotiations. To that end, the incumbent will assist in identifying objectives, issues and options. The incumbent will take into consideration a number of factors including financial, legal, and political impacts as well as a variety of approaches including those from other jurisdictions.
The Policy Analyst will also represent and explain departmental positions at interdepartmental and inter-government meetings.
The Policy Analyst develops legislative and policy proposals and provides advice to the Manager, Policy and Legislation and senior managers in the Department, as well as conducting consultations with the Department and Authorities staff and with stakeholders including other government departments and non-governmental organizations, as well as federal and provincial governments.
The Policy Analyst will also develop and maintain a good understanding of all policies, governance models and programs and services offered by the Department and regional health and social services authorities. The Analyst is responsible for providing timely, accurate and appropriate responses.
Typically attained by:
A university degree and 2 years experience in policy development, communications and/ or evaluation in a northern environment.

The salary range for this position is from $48.40 per hour to $57.81 per hour (approximately $94, 380 - $112, 730) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
