Department Information

South Slave Divisional Education Council is responsible for the education of approximately 1300 students on the South Slave Region of the Northwest Territories. The council's mission is to prepare students to create their futures by ensuring high levels of learning for all.

Job Information

This position is a relief position, incumbent is called in on an as and when basis to replace the custodian when they are on leave.

Located on the Hay River Reserve, this position reports to the principal and cleans and cares for the facility and equipment of the school. They are responsible for performing custodial duties, minor maintenance and other miscellaneous duties in order to ensure that the school is maintained as a healthy, safe and sanitary environment for the students, staff and the general public.

The incumbent requires an understanding of standard cleaning procedure, chemicals, products and equipment. They must be able to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products. The incumbent must be able to work with little to no supervision. The ability to speak a local aboriginal language is a definite asset.

Typically the above qualifications would be attained by:

The completion of grade 10 and related experience; completion of a WHMIS course
