Relief Cook - South Mackenzie Correctional Centre
This job opening is limited to residents living within 40 kilometres driving distance of Hay River.
The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.
Reporting to the Food Service Supervisor, the Relief Cook position provides food service for the South Mackenzie Correctional Centre (SMCC) on an "as required" basis. The position is responsible for the deliver of food services for staff and inmates, assist in following and maintaining compliance with security and safety of the facility, and participates in the Food Service Training Program for inmates of SMCC.
Some of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position are:
- Ability to adhere and monitor a budget in the planning and preparation of meals.
- Proven ability to plan and prepare meals for a large number of people;
- Ability to keep and maintain appropriate records to ensure efficient service levels;
- Knowledge of food service procedures and practices, and the applicable health, safety, WHIMS and sanitation standards;
- Proven ability to be flexibly and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment;
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of the Red Seal trades certificate (3 year program) is required, or 3 years general food service experience in a camp or institutional setting.
Incumbent must be First Aid and CPR Certified, and possess a class 4 driver's license.
Awareness of northern Aboriginal traditions and values would be an asset.

The salary range for this position is from $38.05 per hour to $45.44 per hour plus a pro-rated annual Northern Allowance of $2.71 per hour.
