Labour Market Supplement

A recruitment and retention supplement will be offered to front line Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Midwifery positions within the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority.   The successful incumbent will receive a $5000 supplement upon hire and an additional $5000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months.   This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions

Job Information

Located in Yellowknife, the Registered Nurse (RN), Psychiatry reports directly to the Manager, Mental Health Services, and is clinically supervised and supported by the Clinical Coordinator (CC). The Psychiatry Unit is a 10 bed unit (plus one locked seclusion room) within Stanton that provides care to acute mental health patients on the only locked acute care psychiatric unit in the NWT and Nunavut. Patients within the Psychiatry Unit are often acutely psychiatrically unstable (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression) and require extended stays within the Unit in order to receive comprehensive care. Patients may be considered a danger to themselves or others.
The RN, Psychiatry must be skilled at de-escalation of potentially violent situations and regularly conduct significant independent crisis and risk assessments to ensure a safe environment for all patients, staff and visitors. 

Typically, the qualifications for this position are attained by:
•    A Nursing Degree. Recent experience in a Mental Health setting would be considered an asset
•    Registration with RNANT/NU prior to commencement of employment

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is from $49.12 per hour to $58.68 per hour (approximately $95,784 - $114,426) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
