Sahtu Divisional Education Council
The Sahtu Divisional Education Council is seeking a fluent North Slavey / Dene Kede teacher for the position of Indigenous Language Educator for the school year 2022/23.
Candidates must have completed a Teacher Education Program Diploma and / or Early Childhood Education Diploma and / or Aboriginal Language and Culture Instructor’s Program (ALCIP) Certificate and be eligible for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate.
The following criteria will be important considerations in the hiring process:
•Fluent North Slavey speaker
•Fluency is representative of one of the Tulita area-specific dialects
•Ability to read and write North Slavey
•Ability to implement Our Languages Curriculum and Program of Study and knowledge of student key competencies and their components
•Strong working background in culture-based education and on the land programming
•Implementation of locally developed language and culture courses for high school credits
•Demonstrated knowledge of JK-9 learning practices
•Actively promotes inclusion and student self-regulation
•A strong commitment to students and community
•Active and positive participation in teacher collaboration, Professional Learning Communities, and ongoing professional growth
