Position Overview:

We seek a dynamic and passionate Program Support Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing inclusive educational programs that celebrate diversity, promote equity, and embrace the rich cultural heritage of our community. This position requires a deep commitment to inclusive schooling practices, indigenization, and a competency-based curriculum.

 

Responsibilities:

Course Development: Collaborate with educators, Elders, and community members to design and implement a competency-based curriculum rooted in Indigenous knowledge and values.

 

Cultural Inclusion: Support the development of a learning environment that respects and incorporates diverse Indigenous perspectives, ensuring the curriculum reflects the local Indigenous culture.

 

Equity and Inclusion: Support teachers in implementing strategies that promote equity and inclusion within the school community, addressing educational disparities and fostering a sense of belonging for all students.

 

Community Engagement: Liaise between the school and the community, seeking input, collaboration, and feedback to improve educational programs continuously.

 

Land-Based Education: Support the development of inclusive, land-based experiences designed to provide equitable access to the curriculum and foster a deep connection to the land and traditional practices. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Education

Eligible for a Northwest Territories teaching certificate

 

The following criteria will be essential considerations in the hiring process:

An in-depth understanding of the Northwest Territories' Inclusive Schooling practices. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Demonstrate an understanding and implementation of differentiated practices

Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions.

Experience in implementing Inquiry-based instructional pedagogy.

Experience in curriculum implementation, with a focus on competency-based education.

Experience in competency-based assessment and evaluation.

Knowledge of land-based education principles and practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Priority 3: Stage Two Priority (S2P) - Indigenous people who are recognized members and descendent of a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit people indigenous to areas of Canada, outside of the present boundaries of the Northwest Territories.;

Salary Information

Salary is dependent on verified education and experience (ranging from $95,232.00 to $153,748.00 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance based on the NWTTA Collective Agreement
