Department Information
The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Job Information
The Bureau of Statistics is seeking a Statistician to manage and oversee the economic statistics program for the territorial government. This pivotal role involves ensuring the development, interpretation, and dissemination of reliable economic, social, and demographic statistics to support government decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the economic statistics program, ensuring it aligns with the Bureau's objectives and meets government needs.
- Develop, analyze, and interpret economic data to inform government policies, programs, and resource allocation.
- Provide statistical advice and assistance to departments, regional offices, and agencies.
- Coordinate statistical activities across government to maintain consistency and accuracy, while minimizing duplication.
- Represent territorial statistical interests at national forums and consult with Statistics Canada.
- Contribute to government direction and strategy, particularly in times of limited resources, by providing current and reliable statistics.
The Statistician plays a critical role in shaping government priorities and policy decisions by providing essential data and economic impact simulations. Strong advocacy and negotiation skills are crucial for ensuring that national statistical programs reflect territorial needs.
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
A Master's degree in Statistics or a Social Science (or related field) with an emphasis on quantitative methods is required in addition to three to four years work experience in a statistical research environment.
The following related education will be considered:
- A masters degree in Economics, Finance, Applied Mathematics, or Data Science.
- Bachelors Degree and five to six years work experience in a statistical research environment

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $65.25 per hour to $77.95 per hour (approximately $127,238 - $152,003.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
