Job Information

The Mineral Rights Specialist's main responsibility is the research and analysis of information as it relates to legislative development and mineral rights administration in the NWT, including analyses of other jurisdictions. Currently this work focuses on the Mineral Resource Act and the development of the new regulations. The Mineral Rights Specialist writes reports including research documents, policy options papers, and policy recommendations papers.  The research duties include keeping up to date on industry and governmental activities that affect mineral rights, as well as devoting time to special projects to improve and modernize mineral rights administration. Information, once analyzed, would be presented to the relevant Divisions of Industry, Tourism and Investment and senior management as required. 
The incumbent would also have responsibility for keeping up to date on mining practices, and how they would affect legislation and regulations of the GNWT.


Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: The above noted knowledge, skills and abilities would typically be attained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in this field progressively increasing responsibility.
Experience should be professional work in research, engagement, writing papers, presenting analysis, and anything related to gaining knowledge in mining or exploration.
