Art and Film Support
Due to the need to prioritize essential services, some NWT Arts Council payments are delayed.
Applications received for the October deadline were adjudicated and are being routed, but are behind by a few weeks. ECE is reaching out to applicants to inform them of the situation and expected timelines.
Applications received for the February 28, 2020 deadline are expected to be reviewed in May 2020. Prior to making any final decisions, the Council may follow up with applicants for a chance to change proposals if it is clear that projects will be negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The next Arts Council intake is October 31, 2020. Any updates or changes to the funding guidelines or deadlines will be posted on the website and circulated widely.
For all funding recipients, it is understood that projects might be altered due to COVID-19. As long as funding is still being used for eligible expenses related to the project, that is considered acceptable. If the entire project is cancelled, please contact the Arts Council to discuss returning the funds.
Arts Organizations, Heritage Centres and Indigenous Cultural Organizations Operational Contributions
Operational funding applications had a deadline of March 31, 2020 for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Application reviews and payments are on track.
It is understood that some of the activities outlined in the applications might change due the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizations may use the money received for other eligible expenses over the course of the year.
The GNWT recognizes that organizations will still need funding to stay operational despite the cancellation of events. We ask that clients keep track of the economic impacts of COVID-19 and show how the funding was used. Please refer to the application form for a list of eligible expenses.
Support to Northern Performers applications for 2020-2021 were due March 31, 2020. Decisions for funding will be made on a case-by-case basis, with the assumption that currently scheduled events will still go ahead.
If events are cancelled, recipients may use the funding to cover other eligible expenses (such as fees related to cancellations) and should document all COVID-19 related impacts.
If all of the performance activities are cancelled, please contact the office to discuss returning the funds.
If you did not apply for funding in March due to current uncertainty, but your event is confirmed to go ahead later in the year, please contact our office to discuss.

Please note that our ability to respond promptly to emails will depend on staff availability and the volume of inquiries we receive. We will do our best to manage all requests in a timely fashion.
