Exemptions for Businesses, Organizations and Activities

The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer will consider exemptions for businesses and organizations based on their unique situation. This also includes allowing activities in Relaxing Phase 2 of Emerging Wisely with additional public health measures to address the risk of COVID-19.

How Businesses and Organizations Can Apply

  1. See what the requirements are for your type of business in Appendix A of the Emerging Wisely Plan.
  2. Complete and submit the Application to Vary from Public Health Order Requirements Form to protectnwt@gov.nt.ca.
    • Include a visual floor plan showing hallways, washrooms, seating arrangements, etc.
    • Identify on floor plan traffic flow (see example in the application)
    • List proposed measures you are taking to address the risk of COVID-19
  3. The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer will review your application and will follow up with you if they have questions.
    • Submit your request as early as possible as it takes an average of 10 business days to process.
  4. You will receive a letter/email from the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer informing you if your request has been approved and what additional public health measures you must take.

Apply to move activities to an earlier phase in the Emerging Wisely Plan

  1. See what the requirements are for your type of business in Appendix A of the Emerging Wisely Plan.
  2. Complete and submit the Application to Vary from Public Health Order Requirements Form to protectnwt@gov.nt.ca.
  3. Provide additional documentation including measures that you will be taking to lower the risk of COVID-19 exposure and spread.
    • Where possible, include guidance from your sport’s national governing body on addressing risks associated with COVID-19.
  4. The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer will review your application and will follow up with you if they have questions.
    • Submit your request as early as possible as it takes an average of 10 business days to process.
  5. You will receive a letter/email from the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer informing you if your request has been approved and what additional public health measures you must take.
