Post-Secondary Support
Student Financial Assistance
Since March, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provided immediate information and worked with all post-secondary students receiving Student Financial Assistance (SFA). They were assured that their payments would continue uninterrupted as post-secondary institutions began implementing alternative instruction plans, such as moving classes online. As well, all loan payments were deferred to the end of September, with no interest accrued during that time.
The SFA program continues to work with post-secondary students as they navigate online course delivery and modified programs. There are two supports available through NWT SFA to assist post-secondary students during the school year, in addition to the other full-time SFA benefits available to students. Please follow the link for more information or assistance.

Student Loan Repayment
To support student loan borrowers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) has announced that the repayment of all GNWT student loans will be suspended until September 30, 2020. Please be assured that no interest will accrue during this time period.
The Student Financial Assistance (SFA) office has cancelled all pre-authorized debits, scheduled credit card payments and will not process any post-dated cheques that are on file. You do not have to action this, as it has automatically been completed.
