Geographical Information System (GIS) Capacities in the Northwest Territories.
The Canadian Biodiversity Strategy calls for the development of information management systems to facilitate the
rapid analysis and distribution of biological and biophysical data and information. GIS is recognized as one of the
most efficient ways to share and analyze data and information between organizations involved in landscape-level
resource and ecological management.
The Department of Environment and Climate Change (ECC) is responsible for monitoring forest health conditions across the Northwest Territories (NWT) to ensure the forest has the capacity for renewal after a wide range of disturbances, and is able to retain its ecological resiliency while meeting the current and future needs of NWT residents.
